Do we get wiser as get older?

Do we get wiser as get older?

Right from midnight, I have been answering birthday wishes for my birthday today, over phone, whatsapp, mail, facebook, Linkedin, starting with the family, friends and associates.

Being wished for the birthday certainly made me happy. It also triggered a thought process about ageing.

Once we are over middle age, most of us start wondering if there is any thing we can do to postpone the process of ageing. After all, nature's designs are very clear, systematic, certain and of course predictable.

How many of us are prepared to face the challenges of ageing, and how are we all preparing ourselves?

One of my friends wished me for becoming wiser by a year, which set my thought process rolling. And my focus pivoted to the correlation between age and wisdom.

It is commonly believed that wisdom is directly propotionate to age. And age signifies Wisdom.

Going a little deeper, how many of us were born wise? There are wise grandparents, wise Dcotros, Wise scientists, wise religious leaders, wise officials, wise rulers and broadly wise men and women. Most of them are old. The more you age, it is assumed that more wise you become, because of the power of experience, and learnings from them, which gives different dimensions to the way they look at life when compared to those with less experience.

The same questions pop up once again: Is wisdom attributed to age?

If only it were true, then all old men should have been wise. We note that it is actually not true......
In that case what are the factors stopping us from becoming as wise as we could be when we age?

Are we learning our lessons of life well? Are we practising the lessons thus learnt? Are we correcting our mistakes?

Answers to these questions will sure take us closer to understanding wisdom.

In my opinion, the myth that older means wiser does not seem to be logical. And is only partly true.

One must have age to obtain wisdom, but because one is aged, one is not automatically wise.
After these deliberations, I could only conclude that:
wisdom is age of the mind, not only the age of the body.”
