Tough situations !

Tough Situations
Are they real?

Whether we are in business, in service, or in profession;

Most of us are facing one of the situations below:
1. Compulsion to prove ourselves continuously, many a time unwarranted
2.Terrific Competition from colleagues, peers, other businesses
3. Self imposed urgency to achieve something very fast
4. Dilemma in decision making while discharging duties in service or in business
5. Under terrific pressure to learn to upgrade skills & knowledge

Whatever situation we are in, almost always we think that we are working under very tough conditions and under tremendous pressure.

Let's do a small exercise to understand tough situations.

Mentally list out top three toughest challenges we have to handle or we are handling.

Change of scenario:

Consider these situations:

1.  Riot police who have to control unexpected crowd turning into a mob for a reasonable cause.
2. Fire fighters who have to put out the fire in a skyscrapper and save life of those who are  caught inside.
3. Army entering into the territory captured by terrorists to save both the captured land and lives.
4. Doctors and nurses who work tirelessly in the fight against pandemics, risking their personal safety.

Now, Shall we come back to the three top challenges that we think are troubling us...

We will observe that they fade into insignificance in comparison with the situation faced by uniformed personnel while discharging their duties in situations described above.

Most times we make a mountain out of a molehill, when we face tough situations.

Sometimes the situation may not be even as tough as we perceive it to be.

Hence it is more important to have awareness of the correlation between the challenge and situation..

A deeper study of the following will help us with better awareness and understanding.

1. Is it a real challenge or a perceived challenge
2. The magnitude of the challenge, if it is real
3. our capability to handle the same
4. The alternative plan of action, if the same can't be handled by self and
5. To know when inaction is better than action.

Once we do this exercise we may know that most things which we consider as serious problems do not really exist.

Conclusion:

Often we connect our fears and perceptions as difficulties or tough situations by over estimating them.

Our lives will get better if we just look for ways and means of handling challenges rather than rate them better than our capabilities...

There is another side for this:
The biggest winners in life find it interesting to look for challenges and convert them in to opportunities for learning and growth.

It's upto us to decide whether we are going to be threatened by tough situations or convert them as opportunities to our advantage...

  3. Very true. At times we feel that the problem is very tough and difficult. But if you look at the problem from a distance, we usually find a simple solution. No point in going away from the problem. Face it.

    1. Yes my friend.

What happens most times is that the challenges are not qualified enough and perceived as big problems.

Our awareness and understanding will boost our confidence and the dimension of the challenge itself will change..
